Playlists — a what-if

Your Dunedin Sound. Every platform.

Newzician's playlists currently live on Spotify. Your readers on Tidal and Apple Music either skip the link or grumble through a copy-paste search. This is what that page could look like with a MixMates embed instead — same playlist, every platform, one iframe.

Live MixMates embed. Tap any track to open it on your service. Add tracks to the group, they show up here automatically — no republish.

Why this matters for Newzician

Your Dunedin Sound playlist has 1.9K saves on Spotify. That's a real audience — and it's also a ceiling. Every Tidal subscriber, every Apple Music subscriber, every reader on the free streamers can't add it to a library they actually use. The link works for one platform; the music belongs to everyone.

MixMates routes the same playlist to whichever streamer the reader prefers. One embed on your Playlists page. Your curation, their library. No ad layer, no algorithm in the middle, no MixMates-the-app required to listen.

How the embed updates

You and your editors keep adding tracks to the MixMates group as the Dunedin Sound evolves. The embed re-renders on every page load. Tag tracks by issue, mood, or sub-scene — each tag gets its own embed URL, so the same group can carry every playlist Newzician has ever run.

NZ Musician (the other magazine) shipped the same pattern in May 2026 for their issue companion playlists. See how it works at mixmat.es/for/publications.

If you want to try it

This page is a one-off demo, not a pitch deck. Jamie at MixMates (jamie@mixmat.es) built it because the Dunedin Sound playlist is too good to be locked behind one app. Reply if you want to spin up the real group — we'll be able to figure out a better way for your audience (and the artists).
